Michalis Papapetrou

Michalis Papapetrou is a freelance conductor, repetiteur and orchestrator. Last season he conducted “Le nozze di Figaro” of W.A.Mozart and J.Cage “Europeras 1&2” at the Greek National Opera. Futhermore, he has conducted “La clemenza di Tito” and “Idomeneo” of W.A.Mozart, “Capuletti e Montecchi” of V.Bellini, “Il Trittico” of G.Puccini, “Alcina” of G.F.Haendel, “Pygmalion” of G.F.Rameau, “ The Mikado” of Gilbert and Sullivan, the greek opera of P.Karrer “Frosyni” e.t.c. He has worked as a conductor and repetiteur for the Opera Studio of the Greek National Opera from 2017 til 2020. Moreover, his orchestrations have been performed in productions of the Greek National Opera, the Megaron Athens Concert Hall, the Athens and Epidaurus Festival e.t.c. He has conducted the Munich Symphony Orchestra, the String Orchestra of Heilbronn, the Philharmonic Orchestra of Bad-Reichenhall, the Orchestra of the Greek National Opera, the Greek Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Athens Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestra of Colours, the String Orchestra of Ingolstadt e.t.c. He was also Finalist at the Mitropoulos Conducting Competition of 2010. As repetiteur, he has collaborated with Armonea Atenea (George Petrou) for the productions of G.F.Haendel’s “Alessandro” and J.A.Hasse “Siroe, Re di Persia”, with the Bavarian Academy of Theatre, the Greek National Opera and the European Opera Center. Moreover, he has also collaborated with Barbara Frittoli, Jane Haensel and Laurent Pillot, while accompanying their masterclasses. He was also repetiteur and assistant conductor of the world premiere of “Kreatur 3” of P.Koezeghy and “Das Gesetz” of S.Corbett at the Avand Garde Festival of Munich. Michalis has studied piano and music theory at the Greek Conservatory and Musicology at the University of Athens. Furthermore, he has studied Orchestral Conducting with Bruno Weil and K.v.Wildemann at the Music University of Munich.
